Environment
The institute IMMM (UMR CNRS 6283) is a research unit associating Le Mans University and the CNRS. It is composed of 60 associate professors, 12 CNRS researchers, 32 engineers, technicians and administrative staff, around 55 PhD and 30 Master students. The scientific topics are mainly focused on synthesis methodologies for organic molecules and molecular structures, the development, characterization and modeling of polymers, surfaces, oxides and inorganic fluorides crystalline, glassy or hybrid and functionally structured (nano) composites. The research activities aim at bioactive compounds and advanced materials with applications in different fields as energy, sustainable development, health, food processing, plastics, soft matter and optics. Advanced equipment, including diffraction, microscopy, spectroscopy, radiation scattering, rheology, plasmas, combined with innovative techniques (ultrafast pulsed laser pump-probe spectroscopy) provides an instrumental platform regionally, nationally and internationally attractive. It allows -multiple and multi-scale characterizations of innovative and advanced materials and functional nano-architectures, complex fluids, and surfaces in addition to a well established expertise in the treatment of spectra and numerical modeling.
The institute IC2MP (UMR CNRS 7285) is a research unit of the University of Poitiers and the CNRS. It is composed of 75 associate professors, 25 CNRS researchers, 50 engineers, technicians and administrative staff, around 90 PhD, 20 post doc and 30 master students. IC2MP is a multidisciplinary research institute specialized in the study of materials (clays, catalysts,...), natural environments (water, soil,...) and reactions (natural or induced) taking place there. The main areas of application relate to the synthesis, the depollution, the exploitation of natural resources.

Mission (scientific project)
The aim of the project FIMO is at first to elaborate hierarchically ordered mesoporous inorganic fluorides by the modified hard-templating method and then, to demonstrate their high potential in heterogeneous catalysis of fluorination reactions of chlorinated organic substrates. This work is related to recent results which proved that it is possible to prepare hierarchically ordered macroporous MgF2 with pore diameters close to 400 nm. The first part of the study will be devoted to the elaboration of the solid template, polymer or silica spheres with diameters close to 50 nm. Then, the synthesis of the FIMO will be performed using the hard-templating methodology by direct assembly of template and nanoparticles of inorganic fluorides beforehand prepared or by in situ precipitation of the fluorides. This interdisciplinary research will be done in close collaboration with Dr S. Pascual from the team of IMMM Methodologies and Synthesis of Polymers. Inorganic fluorides that have recently demonstrated catalytic performances in synthesis of fluorinated organic intermediates for pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries will be selected. The thermal treatment is a capital step to remove the template and to obtain the final material. A careful study will be undertaken to optimize the conditions by using two recent lines under anhydrous HF and molecular F2. Finally, the catalytic properties of FIMO will be evaluated at the IC2MP laboratory (Poitiers) with a new process synthesis of fluorinated synthons which implies a Cl/F exchange reaction of various chlorinated organic substrates under HF gas as fluorinating agent. This last part of this work will be aimed at proving that the FIMO materials keep their high surface areas even after thermal treatment under anhydrous HF and that they could offer better performances in activity and selectivity comparatively to their nanostructured homologous.

This ambitious interdisciplinary project is to elaborate a new category of multifunctional fluorinated materials and to evaluate their catalytic properties based on a Cl/F exchange reaction of chlorinated molecules in gaseous media which imply a more sustainable process.

Required Profile
Doctor (PhD) in the fields of materials and solid state chemistry with maximum 3 years of experience after thesis defense. An international experience in research is required (during or after Doctorate). The candidate must not have supported their thesis in the hiring institution and not previously worked in the host research unit.

The candidate should have experience in material elaboration by the known techniques of inorganic synthesis (hydrothermal,..). Skills in structural characterization by diffraction are required and knowledge in the preparation of porous materials will be positively considered.

The general selection process is described here. The selection committee will be constituted by four academics including the two project leaders. The interviews of the candidates will take place at the beginning of January 2019, probably from 7 to 18th January 2019.
